Help! My Siamese kitten is chewing wires!
What should I do?
Dear Dr. Baum --
I have a 3 month old Siamese kitten. She
gets into everything and the spraying with water discipline does not
work. She likes water. She especially likes to chew on cords, like
the telephone, computer, etc.............
She has learned how to open the screen door to the balcony, where
she should not go.
Do you have any suggestions?
Nancy Wyatt, West Los Angeles, CA, USA
Dear Nancy:
Buy and install a locking device on your screen door. As far as
chewing on wires, etc.: buy jalapeno peppers in a jar and coat the
wires, etc. with the juice. When the cat chews on the wires, she
will be in for an unpleasant surprise!! In addition, you should
provide recreational opportunities for the kitten -- scratching
posts, branches, rocks, toys, etc., so that her energies can be
properly directed. It is always easier to redirect an activity than
to stop it.
