HOW CAN I TRAP A FERAL CAT?
|
|
| |
Dear Dr. Baum --
I have a feral cat that I took into my home
almost 4 yrs ago. I cannot touch her although she comes fairly close
to me. I am moving and have bought a have a heart cage to catch her
in. I put all the treats and foods she likes inside and would you
believe she is so smart that she stays outside of it and screams. I
have been given by my local vet tranquilizers and they do not do
anything, put in her food. I need help please! My vet says he cannot
give me
anything stronger and I do not want to leave her in the house I am
leaving.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Diane, New York, NY
Dear
Diane:
You have three options,
1- Give the trap more time- over time it may seem less threatening
and if you withhold any other sustenance other than what is in the
trap, she may ultimately venture in.
2-Increase the dosage of the tranquilizer- double what you have been
given and hide it in a small quantity of food. If she is reluctant
to eat it, do not offer any other alternatives.
3- Call your local animal regulation or fire department to try to
snare her with a net.
Good Luck!!
